How To Prioritize App Downloads In iOS 10 Using 3D Touch

If you have installed Apple's latest software update on your device we will show you how you can prioritize app downloads in iOS 10 using 3D Touch gesture. With iOS 10, Apple is better taking advantage of 3D Touch that is first introduced with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus last year. The feature is better integrated into the OS, with all system apps and settings now using the feature to provide quick access to important and most frequently used shortcuts.

One new 3D Touch-enabled shortcut was stumbled upon recently that will let users prioritize the bulk download of apps. If you have multiple app updates waiting for you on the iOS App Store, you can simply 3D Touch on the shortcut of an app and select the ‘Prioritize Download’ option to make sure it is downloaded first.

So if you are the iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus owner to prioritize an App Store download, press the Home screen icon of the app being downloaded or updated, then select Prioritize Download in the shortcuts menu. Installation of other apps pauses temporarily until the prioritized download completes.

The shortcut appears only if multiple apps are being downloaded at the same time.

Owners of older iPhones that don’t have 3D Touch can continue prioritizing their App Store downloads like before, by tapping the icon of the app being downloaded but with one important distinction: tapping the icon pauses the current download rather than prioritize it, which results in a lot of tapping when you have multiple downloads in progress and want to prioritize a single one.

While prioritize app downloads in iOS 10 using 3D Touch is minor feature, it can definitely come in useful if you get access to Wi-Fi networks only for a limited period of time everyday and have a bunch of app updates to go through. This way, you can at least prioritise your most used apps and games to be updated first.
